The Background to The Hero IPA
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on 8th May comes this commemorative beer, The Hero IPA.
The Hero IPA is brewed by Hogs Back Brewery in partnership with Alf Turner, a third generation, award-winning family butcher and long-term supporter of the Help for Heroes charity.
For every pint of The Hero IPA sold, part of the proceeds will be donated by Alf Turner to the Help for Heroes, the charity created in 2007, which supports all military veterans, serving personnel, those who have served alongside the UK military, and their families.
Alf Turner, proud to support our nations heroes.
At the heart of every Alf Turner product lies a story of service, sacrifice and family. It all began with Grandad Alf – a proud British soldier and a humble butcher whose values shaped not just a family, but a legacy. This beer is more than just a pint, it’s a tribute to Grandad Alf and all those like him – with every purchase allowing us to give back to those who have given so much through our friends at Help for Heroes.
Here’s to honour. Here’s to heritage. Here’s to Alf.
For each The Hero IPA pint sold 6p will be paid to the Help for Heroes Trading Limited which gift aids its taxable profits to Help for Heroes (Registered Charity Number 1120920)
Hogs Back Brewery
The Brewery is a small family-owned brewery with big plans to make their beer genuinely local and their brewing more sustainable.
Moreover, they opened their doors on Manor Farm in 1992 and feel part of the landscape in Tongham. However, that doesn’t stop them thinking differently.
That’s because they believe beer is best brewed locally. As a result, it’s better for their consumers, the local community and the environment.
Generally, great beer comes from a combination of passion, expertise and the best ingredients. Consequently, in 1994 they decided to grow their own hops. It’s been a steep learning curve but they nurture, harvest, dry and pack their hops there on the farm.
